Sotheby’s Important Jewels Auction: Big Wins Recap

Sotheby’s Important Jewels New York auction kicked off the 2015 diamond and jewelry auction season on a positive note with upwards of $9.5 million USD in total sales (including buyer’s premium) on Thursday, February 5, 2015. Several fancy color diamond jewelry attractions that were featured fetched in respectable prices in yesterday’s auction. The prices indicated below are the hammer price plus buyer’s premium.

 

Lot 188, Platinum, 18 Karat Gold, Fancy Intense Yellow Diamond and Diamond Ring, $237,500

A 10.02 carat radiant cut Fancy Intense Yellow diamond set in a platinum and 18K gold ring and flanked by a pair of trapezoid cut diamonds, approximately 2.00 ct. tw., yielded a total price of $237, 500. The ring is accompanied by a GIA report that states the center diamond is Natural Fancy Intense Yellow VVS1.

 

Lot 189, Platinum, 18 Karat Gold, Fancy Intense Pink, Color Diamond and Diamond Ring, $100,000

A three-stone fancy color diamond ring fetched a total price of $100,000 – the center stone is a 1.01 carat radiant cut Fancy Intense Pink diamond and is flanked by a pair of trillion yellow diamonds, approximately 0.70 ct. tw. The stones are set in platinum and 18K gold and each is framed by a similarly shaped halo of round diamonds, approximately 0.40 ct. tw. The ring is accompanied by a GIA report that states the center diamond is Natural Fancy Intense Pink SI2. It is not known whether the yellow diamonds are natural.

A platinum chain set with round diamonds and featuring a 5.07 carat pear-shaped Fancy Orangy Pink diamond pendant sold for $520,000. The picture here shows the unmounted diamond. The necklace is accompanied by a GIA report that states that the main diamond is Natural Fancy Orangy Pink SI1.

The ring is accompanied by a GIA report that states that the center diamond is Natural Very Light Pink VVS1.

A pair of 18K gold ear studs featuring radiant cut yellow diamonds, one weighing 5.10 carats and the other weighing 5.00 carats, sold for $212,500. The earrings are accompanied by a pair of GIA reports that state the 5.10 carat diamond is Natural Fancy Intense Yellow VVS2 and the 5.00 carat diamond is Fancy Yellow VVS1.
