Diamonds are still a girl’s best friend and this year that helped make them popular with auction houses, too.
Eight superb diamonds top the list of highest-priced jewels at auctions around the world in 2014, and when it came to color, blue was the must have.
The two top spots went to fancy vivid blue diamonds and while the 13.22-carat Winston Blue went for $23,795,372, the 9.75-carat Zoe Diamond sold at a staggering $32,645,000 ($3,348,205 per carat), setting a new world auction record total price for a blue diamond and a new world auction record for price-per-carat for any diamond.
Also amongst the top 10 is an 8.41-carat fancy vivid purple-pink diamond and diamond ring ($17,778,247) as well as the Graff Vivid Yellow, a fancy vivid yellow diamond weighing 100.09 carats, ($16,347,848)
The ‘Blue Belle of Asia,’ a 392.52-carat Ceylon sapphire was the fourth of the most expensive jewels sold at auction this year, coming in at $17,295,796, while the 'Graff Ruby,' a 8.62-carat ruby and diamond ring clinched the number 10 spot at $8,600,410.
